Well, those of you hoping to see Erik Bedard pitch tomorrow night, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. Not as sore or disappointed as Bedard himself, though. After his last bullpen session, his shoulder felt stiff and sore. Sort of the way it had in the past when he’s had setbacks.

He’s seeing the team doctor right now and we should have some type of update later on. But for now, he’s not making tomorrow’s start.

“He says he’s still feeling a little bit of discomfort in his shoulder,” Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu said moments ago. “It kind of creeped up on him in his last bullpen. We’re going to have him re-evaluated by the doctor today and we should know a little more later on this afternoon.”

The Mariners — and starting pitcher Doug Fister – just got a nice break with the news that Detroit’s MVP candidate Miguel Cabrera (.337, 20 homers, 68 RBI) has been scratched with back tightness. Don Kelly (.211, one homer, six RBI) will start instead at first.

Speaking of which, Franklin Gutierrez, who has been battling the flu, is in Seattle’s lineup, but manager Don Wakamatsu said he will re-assess after batting practice. Ichiro gets a semi-day of rest, serving as DH, and Milton Bradley will play right field for the first time all season. It’s not a big stretch for Bradley, though. He was primarily a right-fielder last year with the Cubs. His last game in right was Sept.17, 2009, right before his season-ending suspension.

Wakamatsu said he wants to try to get a DH day for Russ Branyan in the coming days, too.

“We’re just trying to give (Ichiro’s) legs a little break going into these last 10 days (before the All-Star break),” Wakamatsu said.
