The Nike Ken Griffey Jr. Trainer is an awesome shoe that honors one of baseball’s all-time greatest players. This shoe is sure to make you a stud on and off the field. Nike celebrated Ken Griffey Jr.’s legendary 21-year baseball career with this new commercial that debuted on Monday night during the 2010 MLB Home Run Derby that Griffey previously won three times. This Nike Ken Griffey may not make you a perennial all-star, but it is still a must-have for anyone who dares to call themselves a baseball fan. The Nike Ken Griffey Jr. Trainer comes in the signature Seattle Mariner’s color-scheme and features a 600 on the heel to commemorate Griffey Jr.‘s membership in the 600 home run club.

 

George Kenneth “Ken” Griffey, Jr. (born November 21, 1969) is a former Major League Baseball outfielder. Griffey was both one of the most prolific home run hitters and best defensive players in baseball history, fifth on the list of most career home runs, and is tied for the record of most consecutive games with a home run.

Griffey, playing for the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago White Sox, won 10 Gold Glove awards and appeared in 13 All-Star games. He seemed long destined to break Hank Aaron’s home run record before injuries later on derailed his career. Upon his retirement, AP noted: “In his prime, Ken Griffey Jr. was considered the best player in baseball.”

 

During his main tenure with the Mariners in the 1990s, and the last two years back with his original team, Griffey remained a widely popular player and a fan favorite around the league. Griffey is considered to be the prime epitome of the handful of exclusive players who were steroid/drug-free in his era, providing further rise to his stature in retrospect.

 

The commercial features the voices of Seattle Mariners announcers Dave Niehaus and Rick Rizzs and closes with Rizzs’ signature line, “Goodbye, baseball” with a message appearing shortly after reading the same thing and then changing into “Hello, Cooperstown” signaling that Griffey Jr. will be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame as soon as he becomes eligible. During this period, Griffey was a figure of national prominence, signing lucrative deals with companies of international prominence like Nike and Nintendo (owners of the Mariners), helping MLB restore its image after the 1994 labor dispute.
