Athletics 6, Mariners 2: Holiday yawn-fest over real quick
Well, hopefully most of you spent Labor Day doing something more interesting than watching the Mariners for two hours, 19 minutes today. They lose, 6-2, in a game that was pretty much over after a couple of first-inning pitches by Jason Vargas.
Seattle managed just five hits all day against Brett Anderson for 7 2/3 innings and the bullpen the rest of the way. One of the hits was a solo homer by Franklin Gutierrez in a 5-0 game in the seventh inning.
Seattle scored another in the ninth on a sac fly.
So, that’s 11 straight games of three runs or fewer scored by Seattle. One more will equal the club record from 1988.
